I Made a Wallpaper!

Well, i’ve gotten a bit tired of not having Doctor Who on the telly, so i’ve tried to hold that feeling off by adding a bit of Doctor Who to my desktop. So, I present to you, in all of it’s glory, my two-bit Photoshop skills!

Well, whole lot of nothing going on around here lately. Weather is hot, mood is cold… what could be better? In the news of jobs, Friday was the last day I worked for Boeing. Sucks, yea, but it’s not so bad. Honestly, I didn’t really like being a desk monkey, even if they pay was great. Setting at a desk for eight hours a day, staring at your computer screen which shows a mix of Excel sheets and Outlook email… gah, boring. It wouldn’t have been so bad if I could have had some music, or something, but noooo… they said that music is “distracting.” Bull honkey. If you set me a task, and put some good music in the background, chances are that i’ll get it done quicker than if I didn’t have music. It’s just background noise to me when I am working on something.

So, hard drive in my Macbook died. Again. Again again. It’s getting annoying, I must tell you. This is my… 4th hard drive in not even two years. I can’t find any reason why it would be dying so often and so quickly, other than just getting shitty drives. Far as I can tell, they’ve all been Toshiba branded drives, so that may be the problem. I’ve read some bad things about Toshiba drives, but you never know… On the plus side, i’ve got Boot Camp installed on my Mac again, for school. Doesn’t look to bad, quite honestly.

My Desktop: NOW WITH MORE TOPGEAR!

If you don’t follow Top Gear, then you should know that the names and times are the top five fastest celebrities around the TG track in their Chevrolet (Daewoo) Lecetti. Thank god Simon Cowell isn’t the quickest anymore… >.>

Anyway, need to get off for a bit, and do some housework. Boo housework.

So, been a while, yea? Hopefully I still have one or two faithful readers. That way it’d be one up from what I had before. Anyway, lots of shit happening.

Started my new job last Monday, at Boeing. Getting near as makes no difference Fifteen dollars an hour. My first check, for only four days, was a whopping 389 dollars. Oh yea. It’s quite fun, working there. Everything is so laid back. I wear jeans and a nice polo or button up, and i’m overdressed. Doesn’t matter what time I show up, as long as I actually work for eight hours. And that’s including a 45 minute lunch. Quite nice being on the computer all day and actually getting paid for it.

Second, I believe that i’m gonna take another road trip in the next few weeks, just ’cause. My last one was quite fun, and I think it’d be fun to do again before we run out of oil/gas gets too expensive/the hippies take over. Dunno where i’d go this time, but it was quite fun to drive around Lake Eufaula. Nice place, really. Anyway, I hope that it won’t cost me a small fortune, as gas is just hovering around 4$ a gallon. May just slow it down on the highway to about 65 or 70mph, as opposed to the 90mph I was normally doing last time.

In computer related news, I have royally fucked up my Macbook, software wise. It is now an “Ububook,” as I have dubbed it. See, I was trying to set up Ubuntu on a separate partition so i’d have a functioning OS X/Ubuntu dual boot. Well…. I kind of erased the wrong partition, and now only have Ubuntu installed. Oops. It’s not too bad. Only problems i’ve had with this install of Ubuntu is sound and webcam. Solved the webcam problem by buying a 10$ cheapo webcam from Target. Solved the sound problem by searching Google, Yahoo!, MSN, Dogpile, and a host of other sites to find a fix. Turns out that, by default, the sound is muted. Hehe. *sheepish look*

I do believe that, other than my How to Take a Shower post, this has been my longest blog post to date. Go me!

Time is an illusion, lunchtime doubly so.

Thirsty for more business during the worst slump in its history, Starbucks will try to lure more customers by offering two hours of free AT&T Wi-Fi a day.

The Wi-Fi freebie will be available starting Tuesday to customers who purchase a minimum $5 reloadable Starbucks Card, register online for the Starbucks Rewards Card program, and use the card at least once a month. The two hours must be consecutive. New members also receive a voucher for a free drink.       Source

Sounds like a lot of trouble to go through for a mere two hours of Internet, don’t you think? It seems to me that Starbucks is going to have to do more to lure people into their stores, and rather than giving out free Wi-Fi, they should give out ten dollars of free gas, or something.

In other news, I have found my old IBM ‘Clickety Clack’ keyboard. Just need to get a PS/2 to USB connector to hook it up, and I’m in business. I absolutely loved this damn keyboard, and I don’t know why. Its big, old, and the number pad doesn’t work quite right anymore. But I still love it.

Hard Drive Woes

Posted by Austin on May 9th, 2008

I am currently on my 3rd hard drive in as many months, all of which have been Toshiba branded. If myHard Drive Macbook wasn’t under warranty, I would have had a Western Digital installed in it in a heart beat. I am getting quite annoyed of hearing the ever so sickening sound of the hard drive rolling over and imploding. If this drive bites the dust anytime soon, I am going to tell Apple to suck it and get my own hard drive. I’m looking at this drive, made by WD that has 160 GB of storage space, and a nice, mundane 5400 RPM speed. Yes, I know I could get a faster drive for roughly the same money, but I like my battery life.

.
Well, signing off for now. Need to get to bed, and shit.
